Afia African Village, Ghana

Afia Village is probably the swankiest hotel on the beach in Accra that is not a large foreign own hotel. Unlike the other beach hotels in Accra it is located near the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, very close to down town Accra, and Makola Market, so there is definitely a lot more to see and do in the area. Driving up to the front gate leaving the dusty road at the gate with the nice entrance it is clear that this place is a step above. The theme continues as you enter the doors with the very well lit, and decorated lobby area. If you continue strait through the lobby there is a very nice restaurant with outdoor seating. The lobby building also houses 20 standard rooms on the floors above.

Between the lobby building and the ocean is 9 ocean front rooms which are stand alone buildings on their own made from adobe, palm by products and a little cement. Winding through the rooms you will soon be presented with the beautiful view of the beach. Looking down the beach to the east there is a nice view of Christiansburg Castle, which is the seat of the Ghanaian Government. During the evaluation visit there was a new restaurant for the lodge being built which will highlight a second floor dinning area with windows 360 degrees around, at this point it is probably finished and be a wonderful place to eat.

Even though swimming may be questionable on the beach in the city, it would be a great place to relax away an evening or a weekend. If that doesn’t do it for you maybe a game of tennis, or browsing the art gallery off the lobby. Afia is also one of the few places where you can browse the internet with wi-fi.

Within 10-20 of walking there are a number of sites, attractions and services:
